The three musketeers were three individuals who had the same goal (was it serving the king of France?). They bundled their strengths to get to that goal. They had this great slogan "One for all, and all for one" (or was it the other way around?)

It might be worth to check out if this metaphor really works. Maybe the three had different characters?
